Service area, not storefront

Ranking in the town you are standing in is not the same as ranking where you work.

Local search work for Minnesota contractors, built around service area businesses, seasonal demand swings, and the map results that decide who gets the call.

What does this solve?

Local SEO for contractors is the work of making a service area business findable across the towns it actually serves, rather than only the one where its truck is parked. It covers service area profile configuration, service pages with genuine depth, the review and photo signals that establish an active business, and honest coverage of the areas the contractor will actually drive to.

The operational pain

Being found across a real service area instead of only in the town on the business license.

01

The business serves eight south metro communities and ranks in one.

02

The Google profile is configured as a storefront when the work happens at customer addresses.

03

Service pages are one paragraph each, so there is nothing for a search engine to match against.

04

Demand swings hard by season and the visibility work is not aimed at what people search this month.

What we connect

Concrete improvements around the tools and team you already have.

How we build

Keep the field workflow. Fix the gaps around it.

01

Measure the gap

Establish where the business actually ranks today and which searches it never appears for.

02

Fix the foundation

Resolve the profile, page, and technical problems that cap visibility before adding anything new.

03

Build the pages that earn

Write the small number of pages that answer what buyers in this trade actually search.

04

Review the evidence

Track position, calls, and booked work rather than reporting on activity.

Clear boundaries

Know exactly what the system should and should not do.

01Should we build a page for every city we serve?

No, and this is the single most common way contractors waste money. A page per city with the city name swapped is a doorway pattern, it is against search engine guidelines, and it does not work. Build pages for the communities where the business has genuine depth, real projects, and something specific to say.

02Our address is our house. Is that a problem?

It is common and it is handled by configuring the profile as a service area business and hiding the address. What causes problems is listing a fake commercial address or a rented mailbox, which risks the profile being suspended and is not worth the exposure.

03Why does our ranking drop the further from home someone searches?

Proximity is a real ranking factor in local results, and a service area business cannot fully escape it. Distance is partly offset by relevance and prominence, which is why genuine depth on a service and real review volume matter. But expecting equal ranking across a thirty mile radius is not realistic.

04When should seasonal work start?

Earlier than most contractors expect. Visibility takes weeks to establish, so work aimed at first freeze demand needs to be in place well before the freeze. Starting when the phone stops ringing means the season is already gone.
